Vinicio Burgos was found with his hands and feet bound with knotted socks. Earlier in the day, Burgos had been driving his white Gremlin car down Cahuenga Boulevard when he encountered the suspect, Glen White (age 22). He picked White up after the pair had agreed on a price of $25 and drove back to his apartment. After undressing, White asked for the money, but Burgos threatened him, saying that he had to do it for nothing or for his life. A fight ensued in which White punched Burgos, knocked him out, and bound his hands and feet with knotted socks. White told the police that he tied another pair of knotted socks around Burgos’s neck “real tight” and that the victim had died before he left the apartment.

“You don’t pick up someone and immediately start trading IDs to make sure they’re legitimate. You have to depend on intuition, and gay men have developed a strong sense of intuition – some, unfortunately, not as well as others.” - Steve Holley, Los Angeles correspondent for the gay newspaper, The Advocate.
