ONE Archives is proud to present a showing of Uniquely Nasty: The Government’s War on Gaysfollowing an insightful discussion with Alan Springer, Executive Producer at Yahoo Studios, Charles Francis, President of the Washington D.C. Mattachine Society, noted journalist Michael Isikoff, and Alice Echols, Chair of Gender Studies at USC.

Produced by Yahoo News, this 30-minute documentary explores the U.S. government’s “sex deviates” program, in which hundreds of thousands of files detailing the sex lives of American citizens were collected. Uniquely Nasty includes never-before-seen government memos by legendary FBI director J. Edgar Hoover (read by George Takei) and John Steele, a top lawyer for the U.S. Civil Service Commission (read by Matt Bomer) asserting that gays were “not suitable” for federal employment.
