Announcement:
Due to overwhelming visitor response and continued demand, the USC Fisher Museum of Art is pleased to announce an extension of its Getty PST ART exhibition, Sci-fi, Magick, Queer L.A.: Sexual Science and the Imagi-Nation, curated by ONE Archives at the USC Libraries. Originally set to close on November 23, 2024, the exhibition will be on hiatus for the winter and will reopen on January 14, 2025. The new closing date is March 15, 2025. The Fisher Museum is located at 823 W Exposition Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90089 and is free and open Tuesday-Saturday, 10am-5pm.
In addition, a series of new exhibition-related programs will be announced in the new year. When the exhibition reopens on January 14, 2025, visitors can look forward to a refreshed perspective: new works by Cameron, a new installation of a vintage Thoth tarot deck, and new LASFS memorabilia will be on view. Presenting the entirety of the Thoth tarot deck for visitors will underscore the relevance of Aleister Crowley’s religion Thelema to the milieu of avant-garde occultists in Los Angeles, and showcase at length Frieda Harris’ skillful interpretations of Crowley’s vision. With the reopening, ONE Archives at the USC Libraries along with USC Fisher Museum of Art will offer new scholarly programing and community events that will both extend and deepen the themes in the exhibition and continue to highlight the legacy of science fiction fandom and the occult’s impact on queer culture.
